Second Chance Month Must Be a Gateway to Enduring Justice

Finally, we must shift the narrative about what it means to truly embrace second chances. Too often, discussions focus only on people who have become model citizens post-incarceration, reinforcing the idea that only a select few deserve a shot at redemption. Instead, we should recognize that, just as we must hold all people accountable for their actions, all people—regardless of their past—deserve dignity, opportunity, and a fair chance at rebuilding their lives as they emerge from the criminal justice system.
