Liz Johnson
Data Scientist
Liz Johnson is a Data Scientist at The Clean Slate Initiative (CSI). As a member of the Research and Data team, Liz is responsible for applying her knowledge of statistics and computer programming to support CSI’s overarching policy strategy and research agenda, measure and validate the impact of Clean Slate policy, provide data-driven recommendations, and more.
Prior to her role at The Clean Slate Initiative, Liz played a crucial role as a Data Scientist at the Data Collaborative for Justice in New York City. There, she specialized in publishing resources related to state prison and city jail populations, and partnered with the New York City Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice to provide technical assistance. Her contributions were integral to understanding and addressing critical issues in the criminal justice system in New York.
Liz holds a Master of Science in Applied Urban Science and Informatics from NYU’s Center for Urban Science and Progress, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics from Bates College. She has a proven expertise in data modeling and machine learning techniques, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and has researched various criminal justice issues including mass incarceration, police surveillance, and case processing. Liz resides in Brooklyn, New York with her dog Hudson. During her free time, Liz enjoys cycling, yoga, exploring new restaurants, and reading fiction books.
