WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH:

A time when we celebrate the contributions and achievements of women in our society, and also a moment to acknowledge the systemic barriers that prevent many women from reaching their full potential.

Women’s incarceration rates have been growing at twice the rate of men’s over the past few decades, which means the barriers to employment, safe housing, and new opportunities continue to grow. Not only do those barriers affect women, but research shows that when women are shut out of the workforce, children are far more likely to end up in poverty.

At The Clean Slate Initiative, we’re working to ensure millions of women with records have the support they need to achieve their goals. We do this by advancing Clean Slate automatic record clearance to ensure everyone has fair access to a second chance.

MAKING HISTORY TODAY

This month we recognize the achievements and contributions of trailblazing women who have committed to doing their part to ensure we create a more just and equitable society for everyone.

THE IMPACT OF CLEAN SLATE

Research shows that 70-100 million people in America are impacted by the criminal legal system. Of those 70-100 million, 18 million women have a record of some kind.

Having a record in America can create significant barriers to employment opportunities, safe housing, and new opportunities. There are tens of thousands of individuals who are eligible for record clearance, but can’t get relief because the current process in most states is complex and costly. That’s why we are working to advance Clean Slate automatic record clearance.

Nearly 12 million women would be eligible to receive full or partial record clearance if Clean Slate legislation passes in all 50 states.

WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH WEBINAR
